Creating 4D Quick reports

This section assumes you have installed our bar code fonts and our bar code plug-in. See: Install bar code plug-in in 4D

Note: If you know all about Quick report see Adding bar codes to 4D Quick reports

Step-by-step

Bar codes are added to existing Quick reports, so you must first open a Quick report, or create a new one.

If you have the Quick Report window open at the moment, save the current Quick report (if you need it) before you continue.

To save your Quick report;

- Choose menu File | Save

Options

Adding bar codes to 4D Quick reports The Quick Report window is open and contains the Quick report you want to add bar codes to.
Modifying a copy of a Quick Report You already have a Quick report saved under a filename (*.4qr), and you want to create a similar Quick report with added bar code printing.
Modifying a Quick Report You already have a Quick report saved under a filename (*.4qr), and you want this report to now print bar codes.
Creating a completely new Quick Report You want to create a Quick Report to print bar codes, but you do not have any existing Quick reports that you could base the new report on.

Modifying a copy of a Quick Report

If you plan to create any kind of Quick report, and you already have a similar Quick report saved under a filename (*.4qr), you can save time by copying the existing Quick report then modifying the new Quick report.

Note: If you know all this and you want to add a bar code to your Quick report see Adding bar codes to 4D Quick reports

To copy a Quick report simply open it, then save it under a different filename - like so;

- Select any table from the List of tables
- Choose menu Report | Quick

To open a Quick reports previously saved under a filename;

- Choose menu File | Open...
- Select the report file (*.4qr) and click Open

To save an exact copy of the newly opened Quick report;

- Choose menu File | Save As...
- Enter a new filename and click Save

Create everything you need in your new report design, except bar codes.

- Choose menu File | Save

Modifying a Quick Report

If you have an existing Quick report saved under a filename (*.4qr), and you want to modify this report to now print bar codes, do the following;

To open a Quick reports previously saved under a filename;

- Choose menu File | Open...
- Select the report file (*.4qr) and click Open

Now to add bar codes see: Adding bar codes to 4D Quick reports.

Creating a completely new Quick Report

Bar codes are added to existing Quick reports, so you must first create a new Quick report.

Note: If you know all this and you want to add a bar code to your Quick report see Adding bar codes to 4D Quick reports

If you do not know how to design a Quick report see the 4th Dimension documentation.

Here are brief instruction;

To create a completely new Quick report, do the following;

- Select a table from the List of tables
- Choose menu Report | Quick

Now you are in the Quick Report windows.

If you wish you can click the Open wizard button to automate the Quick report design process.

Alternatively, in manual Quick report design mode.

- Select each field you wish to add to your Quick report and click the add field button;

- Choose menu File | Save

Now to add bar codes see: Adding bar codes to 4D Quick reports.
