FAQ - Frequently asked questions

What does ciaxcom.lss contain?

File ciaxcom.lss is Lotus Script file (a text file containing Lotus Script code). It contains new Lotus Script functions that you can use in your own Lotus Script code.

We refer to these functions as bar code functions because each function returns a different type of bar code string. All of these new bar code functions are a licensed part of the JIT-NOT product.

You can view these bar code functions by viewing this Lotus Script file in Lotus Domino Designer, or in a text editor.

What are bar code functions, and how do I use them?

JIT-NOT provides new Lotus Script functions for creating bar codes. We refer to these functions as bar code functions because each function returns a different type of bar code string.

In your own Lotus Script code you use the functions like so;

barcode_string = CIA_CODE128( data_string )

Each function returns a string that can be printed using a bar code font.  We refer to this string as a bar code string. At some point you will display or print this bar code string using a bar code font.

Each function requires one string argument. The argument string should contain the data you want printed in the bar code. We refer to this string argument as a data string.

Because bar code functions are Lotus Script functions, you can use them anywhere you can use Lotus Script commands.

Lotus Script file ciaxcom.lss contains all of the bar code functions. All of the functions are written in Lotus Script. Usually this file is imported in to a Lotus Script library.

See: Bar code font name and font size to use to discover the font and font size to select - to print the result of each bar code function.

What is bar code font, and how do I use it?

A bar code font is a font used to print a bar code string. All of these new bar code fonts are a licensed part of the JIT-NOT product.

A bar code string is a text string that has been calculated by a bar code function.

Bar code fonts are installed in Windows, like regular text fonts. For each type of bar code there are specific fonts you should use to print them.

Bar code fonts are selected in the same way as all fonts in Windows.

For example, if you are printing Code 128 bar codes, you will use function CIA_CODE128() to calculate the bar code string and one of the following bar code fonts to print the string as a bar code;

CIA Code 128 Normal
CIA Code 128 Medium
CIA Code 128 Tall
CIA Code 128 Shipping

There is a choice of fonts because each font prints the bar code with a different height. Printing sample bar codes using each font, until you achieve the results you need.

See: Bar code functions to discover the function to use to create each type of bar code.

See: Bar code font name and font size to use to discover the font and font size to select - to print the result of each bar code function.

How do I create the Lotus Script library?

Creating a Lotus Script library is part of the installation.

See: Create a Script Library
