Printing rotated bar codes

Why?

Some fixed position bar code readers are designed to only read bar codes presented in the correct orientation. So it is sometimes necessary to print bar codes in ladder orientation (i.e. sideways).

Sometimes a single label must contain two bar codes, which contains different data, that must be read by different systems. In this case, it is necessary to print one bar code rotated by 90 degrees, so this bar code can only be read by one of the systems.

How?

In a Report or DataWindow, you can rotate Column objects and Computed Field objects to print at an angle of; 90, 180, 270 degrees (in fact any arbitrary angle).

Bar codes are printed using a Computed Field, so you can print bar codes rotated by 90 degrees.

- In the Computed Field object's properties dialog box, click the Expressions tab.

font.escapement 900

- To print a bar code sideways (i.e. rotated 90 degrees), in the font.escapement property enter 900.

Note: Angles are entered in multiples of 0.1 degrees (i.e. 900 * 0.1 = 90 degrees).
